Monster Island, the Asylum’s 2019 mockbuster was released at the same time that Godzilla: King of the Monsters. The film tells the story of a monstrous creature living on a mysterious island. The island serves as a metaphor for this monstrous creature.


Asylum is an affordable movie that focuses only on a handful of human beings. The film also focuses the attention of a select number of actors in a (posted here) single location, so all sequences can be shot over lunch. However, this is a kaiju movie, and that is kind of how they do, so perhaps The Asylum won’t do such a terrible job with it.
